While Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla the town charged rape victims for emergency-room rape kits and the post rape examinations. This disgusts me that this would take place anywhere, but especially in a state like Alaska where the rape rate is TWICE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE. This story has not been debunked.
If we are going to bail out these greedy bankers, why can't we give assistance to the many homeowners who fell victim to walls streets predatory lending practices? It is common sense that providing assistance to struggling homeowners (and stopping foreclosures) should be included in the "bailout" to save the economy. In the words of Bruce Marks (founder and CEO of NACA, the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America) "It's the foreclosures stupid!"
Contributor :: Shanthony Exum Prices of food staples (such as rice wheat and corn) are on the rise. Since the end of 2006 the price of food has rise by 45%. This rise in prices has left more than 100 million people around the world without enough to eat. In Haiti people are even resorting to eating biscuits made out of dirt causing Haitians to take their frustration to the streets. Haiti is not the only place affected by the rise in food prices. The high cost of food has sparked riots in places such as Egypt Indonesia and Mozambique. There are several causes for this food crisis: growing demand of food from countries like China, the rising demand for oil and the increased use of biofuels.

I would love to get on my soap box and say, "we should have affordable food for all people of the world before we work on turning that food into an alternate energy source for our cars," or "let's cut our consumption of energy so the demand is lower." But really I am overwhelmed with guilt because I feel that I am a part of the problem at this point (not the solution). I commute 30 minutes to work every day, I eat meat occasionally (a diet with meat uses more resources than an all plant diet) and sometimes I let food go bad (the shame). I am going to work hard to remedy this because I really love my soap box.

Please share your thoughts.

The Baltimore Sludge Project
Recently, scientist (who were backed by federal grant money) put fertilizer derived from sludge (industrial waste) on 9 yards in a poor black neighborhood in Baltimore. Scientist told the residents that the sludge-fertilizer would protect children if they ingested lead in the soil, yet failed to tell them about the harmful ingredients in sludge.

The fact is, scientist should of presented the residents with ALL of the information before they proceeded with experiment. Telling them of the benefits of sludge without disclosing the health risks of the hazardous material is completely unethical. This is not the first time that poor blacks have been exploited for "scientific advances." Remember the Tuskegee Syphilis where black men were observed so doctors could learn about the effects of untreated syphilis?

I hope ALL of these scientist are held responsible for their actions. I am disgusted.
Despite popular believe that this country takes care of the soldiers who fight for it, many veterans have no access to health care, either because they make to much money to qualify, the co-pays are too high or waits too long at VA facilities. A study from American Journal of Public health (this study was from 2004 so I am sure in 2008 the numbers are more staggering) estimated that 1.8 MILLION veterans live without insurance. If a veteran suffers from a mental condition such as PTSD it becomes even harder. The Bush administration even argued (in a law suit filed against them for denying mental health care to vets) that Veterans are no entitled to specific types of health care such as mental health.

Seriously if this country continues to engage in illegal wars they should at the very least take care of those who fight them.
This is a pathetic piece of art, done in school, out of pure outrage. When the white house denies a recession and schools won't let me write a paper about anything vulgar or politically correct, there is something wrong. Every day we are faced with boundaries that shouldn't be.
And above all, I get arrested if I do anything, because I'm not 18 and I need a permit.
Recently Hillary Clinton has called for the Michigan and Florida delegates to be counted, despite the fact that they had been disqualified for breaking with party rules. Is this a coincidence that this request comes after 8 consecutive losses by the New york Senator? Did Hillary even fairly win Michigan when she was the only candidate who refused to remove her name ballot? Clearly she is trying to bend the rules any way that will tilt the votes in her favor.

Who would want a president who will lie and cheat so they can win at any costs?Certainly not me.
It is really frustrating when politicians say one thing and do another. What is the difference between a corporate democrat and a corporate republican? Everyone is talking about change. But is anything really going to change?
With the first Baby Boomer collecting her benefits this month, social security has been all over the news. Which got me to thinking....how functional is this system anyways?

The current sturcture is hardest on America's poor, who pay 7.25% of their income regardless of how little they make. While the poor pay a flat tax, there is a cap for how much the rich can pay. The amount paid to retirees is based on how much they made during their life, so you pay less (the rich) and you get more out (the richer). I guess that is the American dream.

Lets think about the poor, young, lower-income Americans paying 140 dollars out of his 2000 gross pay .Part of his payments are signed over to wealthy retirees who could of contributed as little as 2.5 percent of their total income during their working life. Does this young person have any hope of social security being there during his retirement? Probably not.

Hopefully one day wealthy welfare will end in this country and only the people who are truly in need will receive government assistance.

I am interested in hearing your thoughts
