It is ridiculous that diamonds are viewed as symbols of love and commitment in this country while they are a source of murder and mutilation in Africa. In this montage I contrasted the traditional (and often superficial) views of American love (pink, roses, flourishes) with the image of a starving African child (originally by Don McCullin) to emphasize the ridiculousness and superficiality of equating diamonds with love. Personally (if I ever get engaged) I do not want a diamond ring. I am interested in hearing your thoughts.
